What to Expect on Your First Visit
- Warm Arrival: When you arrive, you’ll be greeted with a smile and a handshake. Bulletins can be found at the entrance of the sanctuary and we will be all to glad to help you find a seat and make you feel right at home.
- Engaging Service: Our worship flows through Scripture, prayer, hymns, congregational singing, followed by a practical, Bible-based message designed to deepen your faith and walk with Jesus.
- Kids Ministry - After our children's sermon with the pastor, our youth leaders will meet with your children and engage them in age appropriate teachings, crafts, or some other fun activity in a nearby classroom.
- Heartfelt Connection: After the service, we invite you to stay for our time of fellowship to meet our pastor and members. Refreshments are typically served and we’d love to get to know you and share more about our church.
What should I wear?
Come as you are! You’ll see everything from jeans and t-shirts to suits and dresses. We are happy to have you join us exactly as you feel most comfortable.
Common Questions
How long is the service and is there child care?
Our Sunday worship service typically lasts about 60 minutes. It includes scripture readings, expository preaching from the Bible, prayer, and congregational singing. Children are always welcome and after a brief kid's sermon, children join our youth leaders for child appropriate teachings and activities that last until the service end. We hope to expand our kid's ministry in the future.
What is the worship service like?
Our service is reverent and liturgical and hymns are traditional and played on the organ or piano. We also have a choir, but ultimately, our goal is to help you connect with God.
What are your views on today's moral and ethical issues?
Slate Lick United Presbyterian Church holds it denominational affiliation with the Presbyterian Church USA. Granted "freedom of conscience" in the Book of Order, we are what could be called a conservative church and hold fast to the orthodox teachings of the Bible and seek to follow Scripture and show Christ-like love in all that we do. We welcome honest questions and conversation, believing that our community is strengthened through mutual respect and a shared commitment to biblical values. Our focus remains on sharing the Gospel and supporting one another in faith.
What do you believe about the sanctity of human life?
Our church believes that all human life is created in the image of God and is precious from conception to natural death. Following this biblical conviction, we seek to uphold the sanctity of life with compassion and grace, reflecting Christ's love in all circumstances. Each person God has created deserves our love, dignity, and respect. As a church, we also recognize that cultural, moral, and ethical issues are also deeply personal and complex and it is our desire to engage those who may see things differently with empathy, understanding, grace, humility, and respect, valuing each person and their story.
What do you believe about the church universal?
We believe the "true church" is the body of Christ as opposed to a building or denomination, made up of all true believers gathered for worship, teaching, fellowship, and mission. The visible church, while imperfect and awaiting perfection with the return of Jesus, can also be considered as a community of believers called to preach the Word, administrate the sacraments, and practice church discipline.
